Lillie

Dave and I have always said we wanted to have kids before we got a dog. A few weeks ago, that all changed. We went to the mall and in the mall was a pet store. Every time we go to this particular mall, we go to the pet store and always take out a puppy to play with. This time, we took out an American Eskimo puppy. She was one of the most beautiful puppies we had ever seen and had such a great personality. We wanted to take her home! She was VERY expensive, though, and we didn't want to be getting one from a pet store, anyway. We started talking about getting a puppy and we decided since we're nowhere near wanting to have kids yet, we'd get a puppy first. We started researching the American Eskimo breed and looking at some adoption web sites. Finally, we found an American Eskimo puppy. Her name is Angel Lillie (we don't like "Angel", so we just call her "Lillie"). She was down in Tennessee, but there's an organization down there that transports dogs up to New England every few weeks. We contacted the woman in charge of it, filled out the adoption application, and were picked to get the puppy! Over the next couple weeks, we received pictures and updates and information from the foster mom that she was with. We were getting more and more excited and couldn't wait to go get her!

The other day was one of the transport days, so we had to go meet the transport people a few towns over. We got there and saw the big trailer that all the dogs who are getting adopted were in. We were really excited, knowing that she was in there and it was just a matter of minutes before we would be meeting her. We got out of our car and noticed other families that were there for the same thing. The guy driving the trailer motioned for us to come over and Dave and I were the first ones in line. We handed them our adoption contract, told them which dog we were there for, and waited while the guy went further into the trailer to get her. While we were waiting, we saw a bunch of other dogs and puppies that were in there and waiting to be given over to their adoptive families.

When she was first handed over to us, she was really scared and she actually peed on Dave. It didn't take long, though, for her to warm up to us. We brought her home and she just wanted to be with us. She spent the first couple hours crying and whimpering if we weren't patting her. After a while, she calmed down, but she just followed us all over wherever we went. She's definitely a cuddly puppy...she loves to be held. She's very sweet....she's got a great personality and we just love her! We're working on training her and she's already picked up on quite a few things. We're so happy that we decided to get a puppy and that we have her.
