AMP Diapers

This is the first time I've heard of AMP Diapers, but after looking at their website, I think I like them!  So many diaper products and I love all the color choices.  Cloth Diaper Contests and Giveaways is doing a giveaway and one winner will get an AMP Diaper of his/her choice!  If I win, I think I want this Stay-dry AIO:

NMH

Remember when you would write "NMH" on those notes to your friends in middle school?  Like "What's up?  NMH" as in "not much here".  That's pretty much this blog entry.  Nothing much going on, but I felt the need to post a new entry.

Well, not long after my last blog post, I found out that my job is in fact cut for next year.  I took it much better this time, though.  I continue to job hunt and while that's not going too well (there are almost no teaching jobs out there!), I haven't gotten discouraged.  God is gonna provide for us and I'm keeping in mind Romans 8:28..."All things work together for good for those who trust in the Lord".  That's what I'm doing!  I'm trusting in Him and whatever plans He has for me.  In doing that, I know that everything will be good, even if it doesn't seem that way.  I will continue to look for jobs; July is when a lot of towns pass their budgets for the following school year, so I'm expecting there to be an increase on job openings.  We'll see.  We still plan to go forth with TTC in September; I will be subbing if I can't find anything else and we'll be fine with that.  I plan to also continue with tutoring, so that'll be good, too.

Speaking of TTC, today Dave and I baby-sat Cole (our best friends' baby).  We had a lot of fun with him and it was nice to sorta have a "practice run" of having it be just Dave and me with a baby for a long period of time.  Everything went well and we really enjoyed it.  Cole is the one baby that Dave has been comfortable with holding and today he even fed and burped him.  It was cute to see him doing all that and I can't wait to see him with our own baby.

Random, but if you haven't checked out Pinterest, you need to.  It's an on-line collage board website.  Basically, as you find things you like on-line, you "pin it" to your collage board.  You can have a board for any different things you want (i.e. recipes, sewing projects, decorating ideas, etc.).  You have to have an invitation sent to you to be able to use it (I don't understand why they do that), so if you haven't joined yet and want to, let me know.  I'll send you an invitation.  Beware: it's addicting!

That's all for now.  Nothing too new around here.  Maybe something more exciting will happen by the time I do my next update.

Remember Me?

Wow...I've basically been gone from the blogging world.  These past couple months have been incredibly busy.  In addition to my job, I took on 3 tutoring jobs that, in total, gave me 5 meeting times a week.  Plus I was taking a class this past semester and it had quite a bit of work involved in it.  It has since ended, along with one of my tutoring jobs (which took out 2 meeting times a week).  I'm starting to get a little more time back as a result, which is nice.

I don't even remember the date of the last time I blogged, so I'm just gonna give a quick update of the past 3 months or so.

-I turned 27. =P

-I've only got 5 classes left to take till I get my Master's Degree.  I'm taking 2 courses over the "summer" and they'll both be done by July and then I'll only have 3 left.  I'll be taking one in the fall, two in the spring, and graduating May 2012.  It cannot come quickly enough.

-I found out that I'm most likely losing my job next year due to pay cuts.  Cue the beginning of a frantic job search and "What about a baby?" thoughts.  I had people praying for me almost as soon as I found out.  I was also praying for God to open the door for me for a job.  He did! A week and a half later, I found out my job is safe and I'm not losing it.  Cancel said job search and "What about a baby?" thoughts. =)

-Old friendships that had kinda went away have come back, which makes me happy.

-I took my CPR/Epi-pen classes and am actually somewhat looking forward to working at camp this year.  I didn't think I would be and was originally dreading it.

I guess that's about all.  It doesn't seem like much, but, really...it was!

New Cloth Diaper Blog & Giveaway

I just found a new cloth diaper blog that I think I'm going to love reading!  Fitteds and Pockets and Snappis, oh my! is offering an awesome giveaway right now!  I would LOVE to start my cloth diaper collection by winning this!  It's a $120 prize that includes a BumGenius 4.0 diaper, a Fuzzibunz Perfect Size diaper, a Flip diaper cover and insert, a Kissaluvs Kissa's Cotton Fleece Fitted, GroVia cloth wipes, Thirsties Booty Luster, and a Planet Wise wet bag!  Out of all the contests I've entered, I think this is the best one and the one I want to win most.  Of course, there are a lot of other entries for it already, but I'm trying!

What's your favorite of all the products in the giveaway?

More Crafty-ness

We went to a birthday party for Dave's cousin the other day and I made her a card.  The cover is very similar to the first one I had made for another birthday party a few weeks ago, but the inside is a little different.  I'm still just kind of experimenting with these and hope to get better at them eventually.

Another thing I made recently was for work.  I'm working with some students who have been struggling with the concept of place value.  Since the idea of having them just write numbers over and over until they get it seemed rather boring, I began researching ideas for games and other things to help with it.  I went to proteacher.net and started a discussion on one of the message boards to get ideas.  Someone posted an idea that I loved...Place Value Snakes!  She sent me this and I thought it was a great idea for something to try.  The idea is that the students are each given a snake (well, they make their own, but because I'm only with these kids for a half hour a day, I made them in advance) and some beans or beads or something like that and when the teacher calls out a number, the student puts the correct number of beans/beads/other into the correct slot to represent the number.  The students I've been working with are only working on numbers up to 9,999, so mine only has 4 slots.  I didn't permanently attach the snake's head on any of them, though, because I plan to eventually add more egg carton slots as the kids begin work on larger numbers.

A very simple thing to make and use, but it changes it up for the kids a little bit and they enjoyed it. =)

Bummis Giveaway

The Small Town Mom is doing a giveaway for a Bummis easy fit diaper.  I was looking at the Bummis website and found that they sell all kinds of cute cloth diapers, including Swimmi diapers!  I like the Swimmis with the water-related prints, but I think this one is really cute, too:

Another Contest

Dave and I have decided that when we have a baby, we want to use cloth diapering.  I once read that disposable diapers can cost $2,000 - $4,000 in the first three years of life per child.  Cloth diapers are a one-time cost of about $700 - $800 and you can use them over and over with each child.  Plus, they're so much better for baby's skin and everything.  No chemicals and stuff.  Because they ARE pretty expensive, though, I've been entering contests for cloth diaper giveaways.  There is usually a mandatory thing to do for entry into the contest and then other things you can do for other entries.  One of those is usually a blog post about the giveaway.  Thus, here I am, posting about another blog doing a diaper giveaway.  It's a blog I hadn't heard of before, The Little Hedgehog, but I added it to my "follow" list.  It looks like a good one.  =)

Winter Wonderland?

The snow this winter has been insane.  We've had 6 snowstorms in 5 weeks!  They've been big snowstorms, too!  We have about 3 feet of snow on the ground right now; some places even have 5 feet.  It's crazy!  We're expected to get another foot this week!  Being that I just started my new job and, due to all the snow days we've already had, I haven't had much of a chance to really get going on it, I don't want a snow day, at least as a teacher.  We've had several already.  As a student on the other hand, bring it on!  Classes were cancelled at my grad school last Wednesday and I'm holding out hope that they'll be cancelled again this week.  (I know that I'm very blessed to be getting an education and to have support from my family for it, but grad school is NOT my favorite thing.  [May 2012 can't come quickly enough!])  The snow is actually getting kinda scary, though.  People's roofs are collapsing, the snow piles are so huge that it's incredibly difficult to see around a corner while driving, and a lot of it is starting to hang over the edge of roofs, looking as if it could fall on someone who walks by underneath.  We have an icicle hanging from the roof over our window and it's about 6 feet long.  Scary for someone walking down below!  I love the snow, though, other than the dangers it brings.  It's pretty and I think it's fun.  Lillie likes it, too, but we brought her outside to play during the first one and she ended up shivering and needing a warm bath to melt the clumps of snow off of her fur.  I think she looks like a harp seal normally, but especially in the snow! =)

My First Handmade Card

This weekend Dave and I have a birthday party to go to for our friends' daughter.  I decided to try making a handmade card for the first time.  I used my Cricut, of course.  The cupcake was made using the Doodlecharms cartridge and the writing was made using the Sweet Treats cartridge, which I got from my awesome honorary NSA (a Secret Santa/Secret Sister type thing we do on the Nest), Heather, from Heather's Ramblings.  It was my first time using layers on the Cricut, too!  Other than the messy glue spots (I ran out of glue sticks and had to use liquid glue), I think it turned out pretty cute!

This is the cover.

This is the inside.  Nothing special, but I'm not that good at this yet.  =P

MamaRoo

I've begun entering contests for free baby items.  Babies are obviously very expensive, so why not try winning some free stuff for when we have one?  I'm currently trying to win one of these.  I love how it moves to make the baby feel like he/she is being rocked by his/her parent.  Well, one of the things to do to get an extra entry is to post a blog entry about it; so here I am!

For anyone who's interested, here's the link for the blog doing the giveaway:

I actually even just showed it to Dave and he wants us to get one. =)

Off to a Great Start

By that I mean 2011.  I got a job!  In a public school!  I'm going to be a "Mathematics Interventionist Teacher".  I'll be working with 3rd and 4th graders who are at risk for failing Math.  I am so excited!  It's a part time position, but the pay breaks down to being double what my hourly pay was working full time at my last job!  Plus, I'll have the other half of the day to work a second part-time job to really bulk up our savings account!  Depending on when the results from my drug test and physical come back, I'll probably be starting next week!  I can't wait!

2011

Happy New Year!  I'm pretty excited about this year.  I feel like it's gonna bring a lot of changes (good ones).

- job situation:  Though I've got no official job for the next school year, I'm looking forward to the potential opportunities to find one.  Because I've got no contract that I'm under, I can apply for any job I want.
- hobbies:  I've recently been into a lot of crafty stuff.  I made a few Christmas gifts and I'm looking forward to working on a lot more of that kind of stuff throughout the year.  I have plans to learn sewing from my mom and knitting from my mother-in-law.  I've found all kinds of fun projects on line that involve those, and I can't wait to be able to work on them.  Actually, I'm somewhat looking forward to working at camp this summer; I'll actually have something fun to do while I sit there.  I'm excited to be able to work on crafty projects.
- relationship with God:  Dave and I have been really good about doing our own individual devotionals each night.  We haven't, however, been good about doing our couples' devotionals.  We have several books, but haven't really used them.  We've made a resolution to make sure we do them together every night.
- family:  Dave and I have decided that we're not waiting till we get a house to have a baby.  We're nowhere near ready to get a house right now and we don't wanna put off our baby plans.  We have a lot of extra space that's currently being used as storage in our apartment right now.  We plan to rearrange stuff (it'll be tight, but it's totally doable) and make one of our extra rooms a nursery.  We're hoping to start TTC in the fall. (We want to have been married for at least 2 years before I get pregnant and we don't wanna have a baby around while I'm still taking classes.  I'm expecting to graduate in May 2012, so as long as a baby comes after that, we're good.)
- health:  I'm going to lose weight and get in better shape and be healthier.  I know I said that last year (and probably every year for the past ten years), but it's gonna happen this year.  Actually, quite a bit of it did happen in 2010, which makes me realize just how much I CAN do it when I set my mind to it.  I'm about 15 lbs. lighter than I was at this time last year, thanks to the little bit I did throughout 2010 to make myself healthier.  I've got a long way to go, but I'm determined to get there.  Especially with our TTC plans for the fall, I really need to make sure I do it.  I know I mentioned my new electronic stepper in my last post, but I don't think I mentioned the plans I have for it.  I'm planning to use it every day Monday - Friday for a half hour.  I've been looking at the TV lineup and am in the process of picking a TV show to watch each night while I'm doing it.  I figure if I have a TV show that I'm interested in to watch, I'll be more likely to actually get on the stepper and use it.  That's the nice part about those; they're so small that you can use them anywhere (like in front of the TV.  Two thumbs up.)

I think that's everything that's been on my mind about this upcoming year.  I'm looking forward to it.  I think it's gonna be a good one. =)
