On the Right Track

As I mentioned in my last post (I think), Dave and I are making this our "year of preparation".  We're preparing for our future, basically....as in house, kids, etc.  We're trying to take better care of ourselves to keep us healthy and ready for when we are ready for a baby and we're trying to save up money for a house.  So far so good.  This week was our first week of "being healthy".  We've been trying to go to bed early, get up early, and eat better (doing Weight Watchers).  I've also made a goal to get up at 5:30 in the morning (even earlier than early) to exercise.  We've done pretty well so far!  The only real issue was that, after my first workout on Monday morning, I ended up pulling a muscle in my back (or something...not really sure what it was), and, therefore, couldn't do any more exercising for the week.  I kinda look at this as Satan trying to get in the way of my doing something I SHOULD be doing (taking care of myself).  My back is better now, though, and I plan to start up again with the exercising this coming Monday.

The other part of "preparation" (the money saving) is coming along, too.  We've got a set amount we'll be putting aside regularly and I just got a part time after school job this week.  It's a tutoring program that pays really really well and I get to work as many or as few hours as I want.  It's really great for what I was looking for and it's gonna give us a lot more money each month to put aside.  (Plus, when we have kids I wanna be a stay-at-home mom.  I'm planning on having to work at least part time so that we have a little extra money coming in.  This job would be PERFECT for that.  As of right now, I'm planning to keep it for that.)  If all goes as planned, we'll definitely have our own house either this year or next year!  We LOVE our apartment that we're in, we love our landlords, and we love our location; we just want to have our own house, though, for when we have kids, and we definitely want the house before our first baby comes.

Those are the updates for now.  Nothing else really new this week.  Just excited that 2010 is off to a great start for us! =)

A New Year

Dave and I had a wonderful 1st Christmas!  We enjoyed every minute of all the preparing that we got to do together this year, too.  Wrapping, shopping, decorating, etc. was so much fun.

It was a little stressful trying to squeeze in time with both families on Christmas Eve, but we did it!  It was a lot of fun and it was so nice to be going to visit our families together.  It was also wonderful to wake up and celebrate Christmas morning together.
I'm not gonna post pics of Dave and me from Christmas morning since we were in PJs and weren't ready for the day yet, but here's a pic of our first Christmas husband and wife cards.  It was so exciting to finally be able to get those!

After we exchanged gifts with each other (and with Lillie and Cookie), we went to do presents and dinner with my family.  As usual, it was fun and dinner was delicious.  Then we went and did presents and dinner with Dave's family, too.  We had fun there, too, and enjoyed dinner. =)

This is the picture we put in our Christmas cards that we sent.  We had Lillie in it, so of course we had to include Cookie, too. =)  A lot of people didn't realize it was our guinea pig and they've been asking us about her...some people thought she was a dog toy or a mitten!

We had a quiet New Year's Eve; that's how we've always been even before we were married.  We went to Dave's parents' house for a little while, and then we went to my parents' house.  We watched the 3 Stooges marathon, had Chinese food, watched the ball drop in Times Square, and then played Apples to Apples with Ben and Julia.

Now that 2010 is here, I'm hoping to keep up with my blogging a little more.  I enjoy doing it, and it's nice to be able to share stuff with my family, friends, and fellow members on The Nest.

Also for this year, it's our goal to make this a year of preparation.  Preparing ourselves as in getting ready for what the next couple of years hold.  We're planning to get a house next year, first of all. We actually may be doing it this year.  We already qualify for a First Time Home Buyer's Loan, so we know we can get that.  It's just a matter of seeing what we really can afford right now.  If we don't do it within the next few months, we'll be doing it in 2011.  Either way, we need to be saving money.  Another thing is that, depending on when I get my Master's Degree (hoping by summer of 2012), we'd like to start having kids either at the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012.  As of right now, we're totally not ready to have a baby (we're enjoying married life way too much.  Neither one of us is ready to give up the freedom and independence we have to just be together, go out whenever we feel like, and just enjoy life as a married couple.).  We definitely want kids in the future, but we're very content with having none right now or anytime in the near future.  Of course, God is in control, and if He wants us to have one now, we'll be happy with that, too.  With that being said, we both have made a resolution to start taking better care of ourselves....going to bed at a decent time, eating better, exercising regularly, etc.  Our plan for a baby isn't for quite a while, but we want to be healthy and ready for when it's time. =)

I think that about sums everything up.  Like I said, I'm hoping to stay up-to-date on my blogging.  Hopefully that'll also keep me more accountable with my taking better care of myself, too!  Happy 2010!
